SINAMICS G120 – The modular multifunctional frequency converter
The wide power range of 0.55 to 250 kW and the modular design of the components guarantee that you can always create the perfect converter for your specific applications and industry branch.
There are three voltage variations for this series of converters that can be connected to networks at 200 V, 400 V, and 690 V. The SINAMICS G120 also comes with a full machine safety package. The safety functions are commissioned using SINAMICS Startdrive.

The Power Module, Control Unit, and optional operator panel make up the modular SINAMICS G120 converter system.
The Control Unit uses a variety of customisable closed-loop control types to monitor and control the Power Module and the linked motor. It facilitates communication between monitoring equipment and a local or central controller. The motor receives power from the Power Module in the interval of 0.37 kW to 250 kW. Its cutting-edge IGBT technology with pulse width modulation provides incredibly versatile and dependable motor operation. The Power Module and the motor are highly protected by comprehensive protective mechanisms.
Power Modules
PM250
The perfect Power Module for regenerative feedback requirements. As a result, in four-quadrant applications, any braking energy is returned back into the supply system without the need for a braking chopper.
The voltage and power ranges listed below are compatible with the PM250 Power Module:
- 380 V – 480 V 3 AC ±10% 7.5 kW to 90 kW
PM240-2
The perfect Power Module for mechanical engineering standard applications. PM240-2 Power Modules are appropriate for many general mechanical engineering applications and have a brake chopper (four-quadrant applications).
The voltage and power ranges listed below are compatible with the PM240-2 Power Module:
- 200 V … 240 V 1 AC/3 AC 0.55 kW … 4.0 kW
- 200 V … 240 V 3 AC 5.5 kW … 55 kW
- 380 V … 480 V 3 AC 0.55 kW … 250 kW
- 500 V … 690 V 3 AC 11 kW … 250 kW
Control units
The Control Unit uses a variety of control techniques to regulate the motor. The Control Unit is capable of carrying out additional duties in addition to control operations. These tasks can be parameterized and tailored to the specific application. For the SINAMICS G120, there are multiple Control Units with various characteristics available.
Control Unit CU230P-2 series: the expert in pumps, fans, and compressors
Particularly well suited for drives with integrated technology functions for compressor, fan, and pump applications is the Control Unit (CU230P-2). These applications are optimally supported by the I/O interface, fieldbus interfaces, and extra software features.
CU250S-2 series Control Unit – for high-performance applications in general mechanical engineering
Particularly appropriate for drives with high speed and torque precision requirements is the particular Control Unit (CU250S-2). These applications are optimally supported by the I/O interface, fieldbus interfaces, and extra software features.
CU240E-2 series Control Unit – for standard applications in general mechanical engineering
The standard Control Unit (CU240E-2) with expanded I/O quantity structure is ideal for encoderless applications with safety requirements.
CUA20 Control Unit Adapter Kit – a simple and alternative way of installing the devices in cabinets
The SINAMICS Control Unit Adapter Kit CUA20 is offered to allow the Power Module and Control Unit to be separated both spatially and thermally in control cabinet installations. Compatible with all Control Units (CU230P-2, CU250S-2, CU240E-2), is the Adapter Kit CUA20.
