From Workshop to Rose of Tralee

We at Alpha Drives & Switchgear are incredibly proud of the individuals who drive our company – the leaders, thinkers, and doers who shape our team into what it is. We’re excited to honour one of our own today: Katelyn Cummins, who has been a panel builder, apprentice electrician, and now the 2025 Laois Rose.

In addition to being inspirational, Katelyn’s tale serves as a reminder that there is no one right way to succeed. She is demonstrating that contemporary ability has no bounds with her farming background, passion for poetry and dance, and developing career in electrical engineering.

An Apprentice with Heart and Grit

As an apprentice electrician at Alpha Drives & Switchgear, Katelyn Immediately distinguished herself with her diligence, accuracy, and commitment. She contributes the same dedication and expertise that have won her great respect throughout the Portlaoise workshop, whether she is putting together custom control panels or assisting clients with the installation of motor systems.

Katelyn has not only survived but flourished in a field that is still dominated by men. She was the only female student in her course, but she has never allowed that to define who she is. “The boys treat me the same”, she said.

More than a Job – A way of life

When Katelyn is not working, she lives a busy and fulfilling life on her family’s dairy farm in Ballyouskill, Kilkenny. She has experience with early mornings, having assisted with feeding, milking, and calving season. She is actively involved in North Kilkenny Marca na Feirme, where she currently holds the position of chairperson, when she is not working on the farm or in the workshop.

Her path is fuelled by perseverance and genuineness, which she credits to her late grandmother Kathleen, who served as the inspiration for her moving poetry performed on stage at the Laois Rose Selection Night. The performance was moving and potent, revealing a side of Katelyn that reflects her dedication to her family and her art.

The night she became the Laois Rose

Katelyn actually took centre stage on Good Friday at the midlands Park Hotel, where she was surrounded by Family, friends, and other competitors. When she was crowned the 2025 Laois Rose, what started off as a night to “have the craic” became an event that would change her life.

She said to the Leinster Express, “I’m so shocked and overwhelmed.” “I simply went to meet new girls and have the experience. Winning is unreal”.

Her victory is a source of pride for everyone at Alpha Drives, not just for her. We saw more than just a coworker as we saw her on stage. We witnessed a leader, a role model, and a person who embodies our core values.

Alpha Drives: a workplace that supports ambition

During her speech, Katelyn expressed gratitude to Alpha Drives & Switchgear for helping her along the way. It’s a reciprocal feeling. Whether it’s on the rose of Tralee Stage or the shop floor, we firmly bevel in nurturing young talent and allowing our team the opportunity to develop.

It is Quite special to watch one of our apprentices go to represent Laois and possibly Ireland as a cultural Ambassador. We are honoured to have contributed to her path.

Looking ahead to Tralee

Katelyn’s enthusiasm is infectious as the national Rose of Tralee approaches. “Growing up, I always watched the rose of Tralee. Whatever was going on, I would take two evenings off to watch it, “she remarked.

On one of Ireland’s most beloved stages, she will now be on the other side of the screen, representing her community, her firm, and her county. She would be the first Rose of Tralee from Laois to be crowned at Tralee.

Katelyn is straightforward about her strategy: ” I’m just going to be myself,” even though she jokes about switching from “the lads in work having a laugh” to connecting with other roses. All I can do is that.

Join us in wishing her luck

We at Alpha Drives & Switchgear are incredibly honoured to sponsor and encourage Katelyn Cummins on her amazing journey. Her achievement serves as an example of what young apprentices can do with the correct encouragement, hard effort, and love.

Since Katelyn is already a star in our eyes, lets all wish her the best of luck.
