Celebrating Talent, Ambition, & Individual Journeys

At Alpha Drives Ltd., we’re proud to support the people behind our work – not just for their technical abilities, but for the passion, leadership, and personality they bring to the floor every day. One of those standout individuals is Katelyn Cummins, a dedicated electrical apprentice – and now, a 2025 Rose of Tralee entrant representing Laois.

Recently, RTÉ visited our Portlaoise facility to film a segment on Katelyn’s journey – capturing her at work and highlighting how she’s helping redefine what it means to be a young woman in a skilled trade. It was a proud and memorable day for Katelyn, and for everyone on the Alpha Drives team.

🔧 From Apprentice to Inspiration

Katelyn joined Alpha Drives Ltd. with a clear goal: to develop a career she could be proud of in the electrical and automation field. As an apprentice, she’s taken every opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute. Her work spans a wide range of activates a wide range of activates – from assembling and wiring control panels, to assisting with motor installations, site service work, and more.

She’s recognized by her colleagues for her professionalism, calm approach to challenges, and strong work ethic. But beyond her skills, Katelyn brings something more – She represents the future of Irelands technical workforce. Her presence shows that engineering, trades, and industrial work are not limited by gender or stereotypes – they’re for anyone willing to work hard and build something meaningful

🎥 When RTÉ Came to Alpha Drives

When the RTÉ camaras arrived in Portlaoise, they weren’t just filming a story about the Rose of Tralee – they were capturing a moment of cultural change. The team followed Katelyn throughout her workday, showcasing what life is like for a young apprentice in Ireland’s evolving industrial sector.

Footage included interviews, hands-on shots of Katelyn wiring panels, and conversations with her team – all highlighting her role within the business and the pride we all share in her achievements. This segment will air as part of RTÉs Rose of Tralee coverage later this year.

🌹 Why the Rose of Tralee?

For Katelyn, the Rose of Tralee is more than tradition – it’s a platform. As an entrant, she’s representing young women who are shaping their futures through skilled careers. She’s combining technical know-how with leadership, community spirt, and pride in her roots.

Her presence in the event sends a message: that high-vis vests, work boots, and ambition can go hand-in-hand with poise and purpose. It’s about broadening what it means to be a Rose – and what it means to succeed in modern Ireland.

💬 In Katelyn’s Words

I’ve always loved problem-solving and working with my hands. Becoming an electrical apprentice just made sense – It’s challenging, exciting, and no two days are the same. The Rose of Tralee is a whole different world, but I’m honoured to be part of it. I hope it shows other young women that there no right way to build your future – you can make your own path
